Chairwoman Roybal-Allard Statement on Travel Restrictions

Washington, March 21, 2020 | Ben Soskin ((202) 225-1766) House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued the following statement about President Trump’s announcements restricting travel with Mexico and Canada: “I have spoken with Acting Homeland Security Secretary Wolf and have shared my concerns about how to best balance our responsibilities to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus with the responsibilities we have to protect those who are seeking protection from oppressive governments, including those whom DHS has returned to Mexico.  Defeating COVID-19 will require a comprehensive approach, including taking extraordinary public health measures within the interior of the U.S. and at our ports of entry.  I remain committed to protecting the health and safety of everyone in our country, including frontline DHS personnel and the migrants in U.S. custody.” ###
