02-03-20202 March 2020 the Ministry of foreign Affairs with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of foreign Affairs hosted a round table to discuss the issues of Belarus in the field of sustainable development.
The event was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko, appointed 13 February 2020 National focal point for sustainable development Goals, and Marianna Shchetkina, who previously held this position. The round table was attended by the UN resident coordinator in Belarus, John the cauldron-Vishnevetsky and heads of representative offices of the UN development Program, UN Children’s Fund and United Nations Fund for population in Belarus.
In his speech at the opening of the round table the Minister of foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei stressed the importance of continuity in efforts to achieve sustainable development Goals at the national level. Noted that the experience of activities in this area confirmed the correctness of decision on the imposition of the functions of the National coordinator for parliamentarians high level, which allowed to widen the scope of cooperation in the field of sustainable development.
The foreign Minister congratulated Anatoly Isachenko with the appointment of the National coordinator for sustainable development Objectives and assured of the readiness of the foreign Ministry to provide the necessary assistance.For ensuring systematic work in the field of sustainable development, contribution to international cooperation and strengthening of positive image of Belarus in the international arena V. Makey gave M. Shchetkina lapel badge of the diplomatic service bodies “Partnership”.
In the ensuing discussion, they discussed the prospects of joint activities of national and foreign partners in the context of the implementation of the Agenda for sustainable development for the period up to 2030. Discussed coordination of national efforts, international cooperation, development of joint UN programme documents on sustainable development.
