A few months after the German-Indian intergovernmental consultations in new Delhi, and a few weeks before the EU-India summit in Brussels, Federal Minister Altmaier and the Indian foreign Secretary Jaishankar to meet today, to a meeting in Berlin. The focus is on the strengthening of the multilateral trading system, as well as the development of the German-Indian as well as the European-Indian trade and investment relations.Federal Minister Altmaier: “Germany is the main economic partner of India in the EU and we want to strengthen these trade relations also in the future and continue to expand. German companies, for example, can make an important contribution in the realization of many Indian infrastructure projects. In addition, we should work together to strengthen the rules-based international trade. For this purpose, in particular the Reform of the WTO and the resumption of negotiations on an EU-India free trade and investment agreements.“India as the seventh largest economy in the world and third largest in Asia, will be no later than the middle of the century the most populous country in the world.
