Madam President, Ladies and gentlemen, We live in a time of dwindling certainly, in a time in which the complexity increases. Lines of conflict that we were accustomed to in the past move, they blur. There are also new lines of conflict are added. This is true both internationally and in our society.

It would certainly be Easy to capitulate in the face of these conflicts. But I think that policy does not have the mandate to ensure that we capitulate

The Federal government has the intention to these challenges in an aggressive embrace. We want to help ensure that we understand conflicts better. To do this, we rely on the support of science. And there, where certainties vanish, we have to rely on new Knowledge.

(Applause from the CDU/CSU as well as from members of the SPD)

For The First. We have, Mr Gehring, Germany – and we agree – an excellent peace and conflict research.

(Applause from the CDU/CSU as well as from members of the SPD)

It is a stroke of luck for Germany as a business location that we have.

(Kai Gehring [ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS]: Then you promote the German Foundation for peace research.)

This is also confirmed by the Council as part of its evaluation. Therefore, you can be first of all, with the result of the evaluation, very satisfied.

(Applause from the CDU/CSU and the SPD – Laugh at members of the AfD – Nicole Gohlke [LEFT]: now talking a little bit beautiful!)

– I don’t know if you have read the evaluation.

(Kai Gehring [ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS]: Yes!)

That might be helpful.

For The Second. In addition to the positive evaluation of the past work are very recommendations. We are of the opinion that we comply with these recommendations of the academic Council and it should implement. It is the goal to be proposed to precise measures, so that the potential of peace and conflict research can be better used.

The Federal government is going to bring these recommendations to implementation. So a support program to the strengthening of peace and conflict research, for example, prior to the publication. It aims to promote the networking – nationally, but also internationally. It aims to create networking between different scientific areas: social Sciences, natural Sciences, and the Humanities. We believe that you can increase by cross-linking the strategy’s ability to this Field of research significantly.

We are going to experience in future conflicts, we can’t foresee yet-to-be. Therefore, we need to set up the research field so that it can deal with today, not yet foreseeable conflicts and us results.

(Dr. Karamba Diaby [SPD]: Great decision!)

We have foreseen for this task in the invitation to tender of 30 million euros. I think this makes it clear that we take the task seriously.

But you have to see: There is the German Foundation for peace research. This Foundation finances its work from the Foundation’s capital. As a financial politician, I know that it is currently, with the income from the Foundation capital is a little difficult.

(Matthias W. Birkwald [THE LEFT]: “at the moment” is good!)

Therefore, we have decided to support the German Foundation for peace research with project funding from our house, so that the work of the Foundation was to be conducted in low-yield times.

(Applause from the CDU/CSU and the SPD)

We have discussed with the colleagues from the Federal foreign office, the Foreign office does in the next four years, Endowments of the Foundation’s capital, so we have not only not eating, but a continuous build-up of the Foundation’s capital. This shows that we want to set up the German Foundation for peace research for the future and sustainable.

(Applause from the CDU/CSU and the SPD)

I think we must not look only to the international conflicts, but we must also look at the tensions in our society. We must see to it that we also find answers. That’s why we want to build the research Institute of Social cohesion. The preparations have taken about 18 months. We are on the verge of completion. Research topics of the research Institute for Social cohesion, hate crime, which we are witnessing, unfortunately, in our society, the impact of new media, or a variety of social Milieus, which change, for example. The list could go on for a long time.

These are the questions we want to pursue in the new research Institute. We will try to answer the question: How can be discharged in a plural society conflicts productively, in order to lead to a positive result for the company? For this task, we have provided 40 million euros.

We do not want, therefore, that the recommendations of the scientific Council, but actually in their implementation work. I hope that we can contribute, on a scientific Basis conflicts in our world to supply a solution. And I hope that we will not make a contribution, that great Simplifier, in this world, get the Foundation, with its simple theses in our world to go. We as a government want to implement both of the recommendations, as well as the consulting services that we get from science, in our work with the record.

In this sense, I wish me a good advice of the application.

Thank You Very Much.

(Applause from the CDU/CSU and the SPD)
