17-02-202017 February 2020, the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Makei and UN resident coordinator in Belarus, John the cauldron-Vishnevetsky has signed the Plan of joint events to celebrate in the Republic of Belarus of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN).
The ceremony was attended by the heads of UN agencies accredited in Belarus (United Nations development Programme, world health organization, UN Children’s Fund, the Office of the UN high Commissioner for refugees, UN Fund for population, the joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS, international organization for migration, Department of global communications of the United Nations).
The plan was developed jointly by the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Belarus and the UN Office in our country. Under the document of the event centered around three iconic anniversaries, which led directly to the creation of the UN (the international conference in San Francisco to create the United Nations (25 April), the end of this conference, which resulted in the signing of the UN Charter (26 June) and the date of the Charter of the UN force known as United Nations Day (24 October).
This themed event is held in Belarus for the first time. Implementation of the Plan will make a practical contribution to the implementation of the largest in the history of the UN campaign for global communication “ООН75”, launched on the initiative of the Secretary-General of the Organization, Antonio Guterres.In his speech, the foreign Minister stressed that Belarus as a founding country of the UN, which received this status for their contribution to the victory in the Second world war, acknowledges the historic role and responsibility of the UN and of the founding members of the Organization to preserve peace and will continue to support the UN’s potential in solving urgent problems of humanity.
During the ceremony there was a brief exchange of views with the UNCT in Belarus on the state and prospects of cooperation with the Organization, including the preparation of program documents of the UN of Belarus in the 2021-2025 years.Belarusian version English version
