Background Information: The negotiation process on the reform of the UN Security Council was established by the decision of the UN General Assembly 62/557 of September 15, 2008 and consists in informal annual meetings of the UN General Assembly, where the Member States discuss the ways to reform the Council in such areas as the number of members, categories of membership, veto power, equitable regional representation, etc.
A.Dapkiunas made a statement reflecting the approaches of the Republic of Belarus towards the reform of the UN Security Council and emphasized that the negotiation process should be built upon the principles of consensus, equality and non-discrimination.
