WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) released the following statement in response to the President’s budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2021:
“The President’s proposed budget is an insult to American families in California’s 39th District and across the country. Despite his promise to not touch Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the President is doing the complete opposite. He’s even going as far as cutting funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The President is stripping healthcare away from children and our country’s most vulnerable constituents.
“On top of that, the President has proposed eliminating several housing programs that promote affordable housing and address homelessness, including the HOME Investment Partnerships program, the Community Development Block Grant program, and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. During a time when homelessness is skyrocketing in California, we should be ensuring our cities have the tools and resources to combat this crisis and provide safe, affordable housing to those who need it.
“These callous cuts do little to better the lives of residents in California’s 39th District. I will continue to work with my Democratic and Republican colleagues to secure key funding that helps the workers, students, businesses, and families in my district. They deserve a budget that reflects their values and needs, and I will make sure their priorities are front and center when crafting our budget for next year.”
