IT’S going to be a busy day in Leicester on Saturday (4 January), with rugby and football fans heading to the city for afternoon matches – and bargain hunters making a beeline for the January sales before the schools go back.
The Leicester Tigers face Bristol at Welford Road at 1pm – while Leicester City’s FA Cup third round clash against Wigan kicks off at the King Power stadium at 5.30pm.
With both football and rugby fans heading for the south of the city, City Highways Director Martin Fletcher is advising motorists to plan their journeys before setting off.
“We want everyone to come into the city and enjoy their day out, but people should bear in mind that it’s going to be busier than usual in Leicester on Saturday,” he said.
“With the Tigers and Leicester City both playing at home, and with the January sales in full swing, we’re expecting high volumes of traffic on the road network and high demand for parking spaces.
“My advice would be to plan ahead and allow extra time to get to your destination – whether that’s Welford Road, the King Power stadium or the city centre’s shops.”
Park & Ride services from Birstall, Enderby and Meynells Gorse will be running from 7am until 7pm on Saturday, making Park & Ride an option for shoppers and those heading for the Tigers v Bristol game.
