The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating a separation issue involving Airbus A320, VH-VQG, and Aero Commander 500, VH-UJS, near Sunshine Coast Airport, on 4 November 2019.

Passing 700 ft on approach to Sunshine Coast Airport, the flight crew of the Airbus A320 received a traffic collision avoidance system alert on the Aero Commander, which was departing from the reciprocal runway. The pilot of the Aero Commander conducted a turn to increase separation between the two aircraft. The A320 flight crew continued the approach and the aircraft landed without further incident

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview directly involved parties and obtain other relevant information, including recorded data.

A report will be released at the end of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant stakeholders so appropriate and timely safety action can be taken.
