Sinema expressed her condolences over the tragedy in Sonora and questioned officials on efforts to assist Mexico in bringing the murderers to justice

WASHINGTON – Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema today spoke at a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, questioning witnesses about the administration’s efforts to improve collaboration and coordination with state and local law enforcement entities, such as the Phoenix and Tucson police departments, to keep Arizona families safe and secure. Sinema also questioned the hearing’s witnesses on how to bring the perpetrators of the senseless murders in Sonora Mexico on Monday to justice.

“It is critical that we work together to tackle threats against the homeland and along our nation’s borders. I’m committed to working every day to secure Arizona’s border and keep Arizonans safe,” said Sinema, a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Sinema previously highlighted in a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing the work of Arizona police departments with federal task forces in combatting domestic terrorism, underscoring the need for continued collaboration and improved information sharing between federal, state, and non-governmental organizations.

During her questioning, Sinema asked witnesses about the status of their efforts to improve the way DHS responds to reports by migrants of abuse while in DHS custody and ensure swift action is taken to protect migrants and children.
