About 300 firefighters and rescue workers took the challenge and tested their capabilities in the city on Neva in the framework of the contest “Vertical challenge.” 39 floors, 936 steps, 145 meters of vertical climb in full combat gear and with means of individual protection of respiratory organs had to overcome.

In the opening ceremony of the competition was attended by State Secretary – Deputy head of the EMERCOM of Russia Aleksey Serko, Vice Chairman of the Public Council of EMERCOM of Russia Sergei Lysyuk, head of EMERCOM of Russia in St.-Petersburg Alexey Anikin.

“I sincerely admire the courage of all the participants in today’s competition, which challenged, primarily, themselves. To set this as a goal and achieve it is worth it, because you must overcome himself and rise to the top of one of the tallest buildings in the city. MOE is proud of this staff!” – said A. Serko.

The majority of participants were in the race that is called “offset”. This means that the contestant must be currently qualified as a “getdemopanel” and a permit to work in the means of respiratory protection, to overcome the distance in time and connected to the RPD. The rest participated “out of competition” on the personal result (in full combat gear, but without a connection to the RPD). On each floor and the site of the finals was on duty special teams of medical volunteers who not only cheered the athletes, but also, if necessary, were ready to provide first aid.

Among the race participants were women. So, the winner among women was Natalia Bondarenko (Ministry of emergency situations of the Republic of Belarus). Second place was taken by Muscovite Anastasia Semak. Third – the representative of Leningrad region Diane Kleiman. The best team result showed the team the Fire and rescue team of the Primorsky district of St. Petersburg.

The winner of the competition was the representative of the Ministry of emergency situations of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Klyuyko. The second step of a pedestal rose colleague Alexander of the Belarusian emergencies Ministry, Viktor Burak. The third was also the representative of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Sychev. It should be noted that the Belarusian rescuers for many years take part in such competitions not only at home, but also travel to other countries, and there showing good results.

Prizes in the group fire and rescue of the garrison of the Northern capital were as follows: first place – Valery Stories, firefighter IR No. 53 PSO Primorsky district. His colleague Egor Gromov took the third step of the podium. Silver took the lifeguard rescue centre of Vodokanal Gregory Ostrovsky.

We will remind, competition “Vertical challenge” was held for the first time in Russia two years ago. Then the top Leader of the tower tried to conquer 186 rescuers. The initiators of the race were presented by the St. Petersburg fire Department. The main goal of the competition is to show how difficult and dangerous profession of fire-rescue, to demonstrate the challenges daily faced by the rescue workers, to raise the morale of the firefighters and unite people of the same profession, dedicated to their work.
