Our researchers are taking on some of the world’s greatest challenges and this ranking is a testament to all their hard work.

Established in 2014, the US News Best Global University rankings are designed to provide prospective students with insights into which international schools are world-renowned and are entirely based on institutions’ academic research performance.

They use Clarivate Analytics InCites to rank the top 1,250 institutions globally and focus on global research performance indicators such as reputation, publications, books, conferences, international collaborations and citations.

The US News rankings are dominated by US-based universities, and the University of Sydney’s position places it in the top 10 universities based outside of the US. Only two Australian universities feature in the top 30 globally.

Harvard University was again ranked as the top institution, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University. Only two non-US universities make up the top 10, with UK universities Oxford and Cambridge ranked fifth and ninth respectively.
