In the New Tretyakov gallery on October 23 will open the exhibition “the avant-garde. List No. 1. The centenary of the Museum of painterly culture”, devoted to the Soviet avant-garde artists. The exhibition, in particular, will showcase the work of Malevich, Kandinsky, Shterenberg, Tatlin.

The Museum of painterly culture was the world’s first public Museum of avant-garde art and one of the first public museums of art in General. He appeared in 1919 and lasted only 10 years — until 1929.

Then more than 700 works of avant-garde art was given to the exposition of the Tretyakov gallery, but for a long time did not stay there in the mid-1930s, the Soviet Union began a struggle against formalism, avant-garde and all programs were suspended.

Exhibition at the New Tretyakov gallery is an exact reconstruction of the exhibition of the Museum of painterly culture, reconstructed from archival documents. Visitors will see over 250 paintings, graphic and sculptural works, many of which today are in the regional and foreign collections.
