REPAIRS and resurfacing work is due to be carried out on two sections of road in the city during October.
Work will be carried out at the junction of Welford Road and Aberdale Road, and also at the junction of Braunstone Gate and Western Boulevard, to repair and replace features such as inspection chamber covers and other metalwork, as well as road resurfacing.
Leicester City Council’s highways team will be working at the junction of Welford Road and Aberdale Road from October 10 to 17.
On October 10 and 11, there will be some off-peak lane closures, and on the weekend of October 12 and 13, Welford Road will be closed outbound at its junction with Overdale Road. Inbound traffic continue, but there will be no right turn out of Aberdale Road.
For the remainder of the scheme from October 14 to 17, Welford Road will remain open to both inbound and outbound traffic with a contraflow in place. Overdale Road and Aberdale Road will both be closed at their junction with Welford Road.
The scheme will cost about £120,000 in total and will cover over 3,600 square metres.
Footpath improvements and road resurfacing work will also be carried out at Western Boulevard from October 14 to 18. The road will be closed in both directions between Braunstone Gate and The Newarke during that time, although access to the Trinity Hospital/The Venue@DMU car park will remain.
That scheme, which will cover 740 square metres, will cost about £30,000.
The works are part of Leicester City Council’s annual capital maintenance programme, which in 2018/19 saw £4.75million invested in road repairs and upkeep.
