FARGO – U.S. Senator and Senate Veterans Affairs (VA) Committee member Kevin Cramer (R-ND) hosted VA Secretary Robert Wilkie for a tour of Healing with Hyperbarics of North Dakota, a Fargo-based Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) clinic.
“The primary point of the federal government is the defense of our nation. Part of that means defending those who defend us, which is why it was important to have Secretary Wilkie visit North Dakota,” said Senator Cramer. “We stand with the VA and the work they are doing, but we plan to always hold the bureaucracy accountable for getting our veterans the accessible, affordable, quality care they deserve.”
Senator Cramer previously discussed this issue with Secretary Wilkie in March during a Senate VA Committee hearing, where the Secretary committed to visiting this facility.
“HBOT presents us with an opportunity to help heal our veterans while lowering costs and protecting them from drug addiction,” said Senator Cramer.
Earlier this month, the VA cleared HBOT as a clinical demonstration project, which Senator Cramer said he hoped “is the beginning of significant reforms” on this issue. Senators Cramer and Hoeven with House colleague Andy Biggs (R-AZ) then introduced legislation directing the VA to give veterans with TBI or PTSD access to HBOT.
Today’s Healing with Hyperbarics tour followed the Senator and Secretary’s visit to Fargo’s VA medical and regional offices.
