The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development approved a new integrated irrigation project of the National Irrigation Program (PNRegadios). This is the Évora Hydraulic Circuit and its Irrigation Block, which corresponds to public support exceeding 13.6 million euros. This is the first project approved under the second phase of PNRegadios, financed by the State through loans negotiated with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), which will benefit a total area. of 3 thousand hectares.
Meanwhile, a € 60 million call for tender is open by the end of October to finance projects located in the North and Central Coast, North and Central Interior, Southwest Alentejo and the Algarve. Projects must be awarded by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DGADR), by the Regional Directorates for Agriculture and Fisheries (DRAP), or by other Public Administration bodies, such as Municipalities, in partnership with DGADR or DRAP. .
The level of support to be provided, forfeited, is up to 100% of the investment value and limited to 40% for hydropower or photovoltaic installations. Pre-built and operational storage infrastructures that have, or guarantee, the implementation of a green flow regime will be valued. There is no limit to the number of applications submitted by each beneficiary, alone or in partnership, and the maximum value of each application is 15 million euros. Expenditure on studies related to project design, expropriation and compensation arising from project implementation and project execution works are eligible.
PNRegadios, whose first phase is already underway, is aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change on agriculture by providing the country with more water reserves and better and more efficient use of systems. Another of the objectives of this Program is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of national agriculture, contributing to the increase of exports and the substitution of imports by national production. By 2023 the first part of PNRegadios should be completed, with the creation of 100 thousand new hectares of irrigated land, corresponding to a public investment of 560 million euros and the creation of more than 10,000 new permanent jobs.
