A man found fatally injured in Lewisham has been named as 34-year-old Omar Smith.

Police were called at around 23:55hrs on Friday, 13 September, to a fight in a chicken shop in Downham Way, Grove Park. Officers attended and found two men suffering stab and head injuries.

Both were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

The first man, formally identified as Mr Smith from Lewisham died in hospital on Saturday, 14 September. His next of kin have been informed.

A special post-mortem examination held on Sunday, 15 September at Greenwich Mortuary proved inconclusive and we await the results of further tests.

The second man injured, aged, 51 [A], was released from hospital following treatment and was arrested on suspicion of GBH.

Two other men aged 40 [B] and 46 [C] were arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH.

All three were further arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to south London police stations.

[B] has now been released under investigation and [A] and [C] have been bailed to a date in mid-October.

Enquiries into the full circumstances continue.

The man fatally injured was not a worker at the chicken shop.

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have been informed and will be investigating working closely with police in Lewisham.
