Searchlight, Nev. – Rep. Susie Lee (Nev.-03) hosted the latest in a series of “Coffee with Your Congresswoman” events to hear directly from constituents in the area. Before meeting constituents, Rep. Lee visited the Searchlight Health Fair to highlight the importance of access and affordability to quality health care, especially in underserved communities like Searchlight.
“My top priority in Congress is serving my constituents, and to do that, I need to hear directly from people in every corner of my district about what problems they are facing and the solutions needed to improve their lives,” said Rep. Susie Lee. “It was great grabbing coffee and talking with members of the community today. One thing that was clear is that no matter the issue, Searchlight’s residents—like so many Americans–are sick of the partisan fighting and gridlock in Washington, and want Congress to come together to actually solve problems. So long as I represent this community in Congress, I’m going to keep doing just that.”
BACKGROUND: Rep. Susie Lee introduced a bipartisan bill, H.R. 3150, the Rural and Underserved Residencies to Attract Long-Term Physicians Act (the Rural Physicians Act) to address the doctor shortage in underserved areas of southern Nevada like Searchlight. The bill would allow medical students and residents to qualify for interest-free deferment while serving their internship or residency in a medically underserved area.
