“Canada welcomes the release of 35 political prisoners ukrainians held by Russia, including the filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, the journalist Roman Souchtchenko and 24 sailors ukrainians arrested in the strait of Kerch in November, last.

“We hope that today’s news will be a step forward in terms of diplomacy and a step to end the conflict in the belonging to the donbas.

“We salute the efforts made by the chairman Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and by many other representatives of the Ukrainian government and civil society who have worked to secure the release of these political prisoners.

“We would also like to acknowledge the work of advocacy being done by Canadians on behalf of these detainees, which has contributed to the pressures on an international scale to ensure their release.

“Canada strongly supports the Ukrainian people and will always stand for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. “
