Locals and visitors to Mallacoota may see activity in the Narrows Walking Track area over the coming months as work is undertaken to protect important cultural sites.
Parks Victoria is currently preparing to engage a consultant to design and construct a boardwalk, and stabilise sections of the track to protect sensitive Aboriginal cultural middens in the area. Other planned works will include some fencing, revegetation and information signage to recognise the significance of the area to the Traditional Owners.
Currently access is unchanged and visitors and locals can still enjoy a walk along the track.
At times during construction the track may need to be temporarily closed. If so, closures will be listed on Parks Victoria’s website and signs will be in place at each end of the walk.
A Cultural Heritage Management Plan has been prepared for the site, which forms part of the larger Captains Creek walking track in Croajingalong National Park.
