Press Release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) issued the following statement on the retirement of Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (WI-05).

“I join in the chorus of those thanking Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner for 40 years of public service in the House of Representatives. I had the pleasure of serving on the Judiciary Committee with him and we have worked together on many issues over the years. We have introduced multiple bills together including the SAFE Justice Act and the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act. Congressman Sensenbrenner has been a tireless advocate for voting rights in this country. He introduced and helped ensure passage of the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act of 2006, and he would then go on to introduce the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014 in response to the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision in Shelby County v. Holder case. I am sad to hear Jim will be leaving the halls of Congress. I wish him, and his wife Cheryl, all the best as he enters this new chapter of his life.”
