The Symposium, which will convene for one and a half days from 13-14 October, will bring together Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) national focal points, representatives from governments, international organizations, the private sector, local and regional authorities, academia, youth and philanthropic organizations to discuss how to raise the profile of and mobilize support to the ACE agenda in order to raise ambition and accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The High-level Event, which will take place in the afternoon of 14 October and bring together the Austrian Chancellor, the UNFCCC Executive Secretary and other dignitaries, will mobilize global decision makers who will commit to climate action in their areas of influence by signing the Burgenland Declaration on Action for Climate Empowerment.

The events aim to contribute to “The Year of Ambition” (2019), which seeks to increase ambition and participation by all parts of society in the climate action agenda through a series of high-level events, including the UN Climate Action Summit in September and the 25th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 25) to UNFCCC in Santiago, Chile, in December.

The events are organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism in cooperation with the UNFCCC Secretariat and the state of Burgenland and the Austrian-German Friendship Association.
