The signing of the memorandum of understanding and the Agreement on co-operation between Timor-Leste and Australia

On the 6th of march, in the year 2018, the then Minister of state in the Prime Minister, to the Delimitation of Borders and the Agent is in the Process of consensus-building, old books, Cabral, Pereira and the then Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, Julie Bishop, have signed on to the Treaty between the government of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Australia in establishing their Maritime Boundaries in the Timor Sea.

The Treaty on Maritime Boundaries establishes the maritime boundary of the permanent between the two countries as well as a stable legal framework for the development of oil and gas resources in the Timor Sea.

Since the signing of the Treaty of Maritime Boundaries, the two countries have been working closely with operators in the oil and offshore for the development of the transitional arrangements, which will provide commercial certainty and a guarantee for all parties, at all times during the transition of the Timor Sea Treaty the new Treaty of the Maritime Boundaries.

The Government of Timor-Leste, concludes that the transitional arrangements for the implementation of the Treaty on the Sea Borders, with the signing of five new Production Sharing Contracts with operators of oil pipelines.

The australian Government has also, recently, the transitional arrangements for the implementation of the Treaty of Maritime Boundaries, with the approval of the australian Parliament for legislation in this area.

In Timor-Leste and Australia signed an agreement on the exchange of tax information between the two countries and two memorandums of understanding between their institutions in order to enable co-operation on issues related to the oil.

With the completion and signing of these agreements are completed, all the necessary measures for the exchange of diplomatic notes between East Timor and Australia, taking place on Saturday the 30th of August, which confirms the entry into force of the Treaty of the maritime Boundaries.
