On Thursday, the 22nd of August 2019 at the latest, with the Minister of National Defence, João Gomes Cravinho, and the President of EMBRAER Defense and Security, Jackson Schneider, was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, and the contract for procurement by the Portuguese Air Force, that of the five aircraft in the KC-390 and it is a flight simulator produced by the company in brazil.

The agreement was approved by the Council of Ministers of the Portuguese on the 11th of July, 2019 at the latest, and include, in addition to the purchase of the aircraft and in the simulator, the contracting of the relevant services, the provision of logistical support.

Portugal is the second country, in addition to Brazil, one to operate the aircraft in the KC-390 aircraft for tactical transport and logistics, and fixed in-flight refueling, developed and built by EMBRAER Defense and Security. With these aircraft, and the Portuguese Air Force will enhance its capabilities in air transport, search and rescue, evacuation and sanitation facilities support to the logistics between the mainland and of the archipelagos (Azores and Madeira), the replenishment on the flight and fighting forest fires.

The cooperation with the Portuguese companies in the production of the KC-390 has represented a fundamental step towards the internationalisation of the aviation industry in brazil. In addition to highlighting the excellence of the aerospace industry and in defense of Brazil, in the acquisition of five aircraft as evidence of the success of a joint enterprise, with the entrance on the market of a member state of NATO, the product of high technology and the application of both civil and military.
