WIESBADEN – In the 2. Quarter of 2019 continued according to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical office (Destatis), the increase in acquisition activity. With 45.2 Million Working which had their place of work in Germany, have exceeded the previous year’s level to continue. In comparison to the 2. Quarter of 2018 grew the number of employed persons of 435 000 people, or 1.0 %. The rate of growth compared to the previous year was 2. Quarter, slightly lower than in the 1. Quarter of 2019 ( 1.1 %) and in the 4. Quarter of 2018 ( at 1.3%).

Spring revival in the labour market is weaker than in the five-year average

Compared to the 1. Quarter of 2019, which increased the number of employed persons 324 000 persons ( 0,7 %). The increase in acquisition activity in the 2. Quarter of a year is due to the General revival of foreign occupations in spring is usual for the season. The spring revival was in the year 2019 more subdued than in the average of the last five years, ( 423 000 persons). On a seasonally adjusted basis, i.e. after elimination of the usual seasonal variations, increased employment in the 2. Quarter of 2019 compared to the previous quarter to 50 000 people ( 0.1%).

Self-employment continues to decline

More and more people take up in Germany is a dependent activity. The number of employees increased 2. Quarter of 2019, compared to the prior-year period to 497 000 ( 1,2 %) to just over 41 million persons. In contrast, the decline of self-employed activity continued. In the 2. Quarter of 2019, decreased the number of self-employed including family workers, compared to the prior-year period by 62 000 persons (by 1.5 %) to 4.17 million.

Service areas with strongest growth

The largest absolute employment gains within the service areas had the Public service providers, education, health, 203 000 persons ( 1,8 %), followed by the trade, transport and hospitality with 75 000 persons ( 0,7 %), as well as the field of Information and communication with 41 000 persons ( 3,1 %). In contrast, the downward trend in the financial and insurance service providers, continued (-12 000 people

The volume of work in spite of more employment unchanged

The average number of hours worked per employed declined, according to first provisional calculations of the Institute for labour market and occupational research (IAB) of the Federal employment Agency in the 2. Quarter of 2019 in comparison to the 2. Quarter of 2018 1.0 % on 328,3 hours. The total economic volume of work – so the product of the employed working population and hours worked per working – fraud in 2. Quarter of 2019, as in the same period a year ago to 14.8 billion hours.

Quarter of 2019, the Federal Statistical office in the context of the General revision 2019, the National accounts (NA) and recalculated time series from 1991 onwards, to work in Germany as well as the working hours and working volume of the IAB before.

As a result, the General revision 2019, the national accounts at the time of acquisition and time series, a slight level increase. Over the entire revision period from 1991 onwards, the number of employed persons in Germany has been revised up by an average of approximately 31 000 people ( approximately 0.1 %) to the top.The current statements about the economic history of the work in Germany were confirmed.
