MIL OSI-C. Mediterranean Region: Portugal

This morning arrived to Portugal 5 citizens from Italy, rescued off the coast of Libya by an Italian navy ship, last May.

These 5 men, nationals of Sudan and Nigeria, were received at Lisbon airport by a team from the Aliens and Borders Service and the High Commission for Migration and then hosted by the Platform for Support to Refugees in Cacém and the Center for Migration of Fundão.

As has been the case in all emergency situations resulting from ransom in the Mediterranean, Portugal has thus taken on its commitment to solidarity and European cooperation on migration by actively participating in all reception processes.

This is what happened with the rescues of Lifeline, Aquarius I, Diciotti, Aquarius II, Sea Watch III, Alan Kurdi and other small vessels, with 127 people already arriving in our country during 2018 and earlier this year.

Despite this solidarity, the Portuguese Government continues to defend an integrated, stable and permanent European solution to meet the migratory challenge.
