MIL OSI Translation. Region: Germany / Germany –
Source: Federal Foreign OfficeThe ban on torture applies worldwide and absolutely. Yet, every day, countless people in various parts of the world are victims of torture and cruel, inhuman mistreatment. It violates human dignity, brutalizes society, and is the source of new conflicts. Today’s International Day to Support the Victims of Torture affirms our strong opposition to any form of torture. As an international community, we need to work together to fight torture. This applies to the prevention, protection and support of victims as well as to the call for states to fulfill their obligations under international law and to investigate allegations of torture, to bring the perpetrators to justice and to provide legal remedies for the victims. All of this can be better achieved by working together at intergovernmental level, as well as with civil society, and in particular human rights activists, to work together to speak out against torture.
