Source: Die Linke “The two-state solution is not only rhetorically pronounced dead by Donald Trump’s’ Deal of the Century ‘, but buried in black and white,’ explains Heike Hänsel, Deputy Chair of the DIE LINKE Group, on the occasion of the two-day presentation of the economic part of the US peace plan in Bahrain. The Foreign Minister continued: “The deployment of low-ranking US and Arab government officials, including from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Morocco, along with a boycott of Palestinian talks and non-participation of Israeli diplomats, show that how little acceptance the plan has from the beginning. Lebanon has already rejected the funds for the permanent settlement of Palestinian refugees in their own country and displeasure is also breaking in Jordan’s population. The economic plan is worthless without the political scenario of a peace process. Answers must be given to key issues such as Israeli occupation, illegal settlement development, refugee return and security for the Israeli and Palestinian populations. In addition, Jared Kushner does not seem to have dealt with the current US policy in the Middle East. For example, nine hundred million dollars in health care in the Palestinian territories is promised, despite President Trump’s total cessation of aid payments to Palestinian-owned hospitals in East Jerusalem last year. As well as the payments to aid projects, which are photographically illustrated in the brochure. The plan presented contains hardly any real innovations, the economic dependence of the Palestinians of Israel is only further cemented, without solving the conflict politically. The Israeli occupation is the main obstacle to economic growth in the Palestinian territories, not missing investment and privatization. The federal government must also reject this fake peace plan within the framework of the EU and take new initiatives for a two-state solution. DIE LINKE is committed to a political solution to the conflict, and thus to compliance with and implementation of existing UN resolutions, including Resolution 242 the end of the occupation, the lifting of the blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, and Resolution 194 on the Palestinians’ right of return. A sustainable and just solution to the Israel / Palestine conflict can only exist on the basis of two democratic, viable states. “
