MeteoSwiss confirms the arrival of an extreme and long-lasting heat wave today. The Department of Health and Social Action (DSAS) is currently activating the heat wave plans of health institutions of the canton and municipalities. The measures include regular visits to the homes of the most vulnerable people, as well as strengthening the on-line services of the call center of duty doctors. The public can obtain advice and a quick orientation towards the existing social and sanitary system.
MeteoSwiss announces a prolonged heatwave for the coming days, particularly intense for the month of June. A danger notice of degree 3 has been issued as of today at 15h until Sunday, June 30, 2019.The situation could justify a notice of degree 4 from tomorrow (corresponding to a maximum temperature exceeding 35-36 ° C for at least 5 consecutive days). On the other hand, it is necessary to count with aggravating factors, such as a progressive increase of the ozone levels, as well as a progressive increase of the night temperatures, in particular in the urban areas. The DSAS thus triggers the heat wave plans institutional and communal. A lot of information is available under www.vd.ch/canicule.
Measures put in place
Call center for on-call doctors: 0848 133 133The call center for duty doctors has strengthened its system whose objective is to provide prevention advice, to inform and guide people with symptoms or criteria of risk and advise community visitors at the homes of the most vulnerable.
Community visitorsThe communes set up a system of community visitors whose aim is to constitute a first line of prevention of the consequences of heat on health. Visits focus on vulnerable people, aged 75 and over, who are not normally followed by health and social care institutions.
Institutional plans (Hospitals, EMS, CMS, ESE, etc.) The socio-health actors of the canton actively participate in the heat wave with the reinforcement of prevention and protection measures for their patients and their users.
The head of the DSAS, with the support of the Office of the Cantonal Physician, closely follows the evolution of the situation.
