Order intake volume remains at record levels
WIESBADEN – According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), real (price-adjusted) order intake in the construction industry in April 2019 was 1.7% lower than in March 2019, seasonally and calendar-adjusted. This decline is due to the now very high order intake level due to the particularly good development in the last months of the report. In the less volatile three-month comparison, the real volume of seasonally and calendar adjusted new orders fell by 6.1% between February and April 2019 compared to November 2018 through January 2019.
Compared with the previous year, the calendar-adjusted real order intake in the construction industry in April 2019 was 6.4% higher. In the first four months of 2019, it rose 7.5% year-on-year.
Fifth record month in a row
Incoming orders in the main construction sector in companies with 20 or more employees were nominally higher at around € 7.6 billion in April 2019, 12.7% higher than in April 2018. This was the highest value ever measured in April in April Germany. Order intake volumes thus remain at record levels: Since December 2018, the highest values ever recorded have been achieved in the respective reporting months. In comparison to the first four months of 2018, new orders increased nominally by 13.9% in the first four months of 2019.
Basic data and long time series on the construction industry can be found in the table (New orders indices, years) and the table (New orders indices, months, adjusted data) in the GENESIS-Online database and under the heading economic indicators be retrieved.
