Cúcuta (June 22/19). The Director for the Development and Border Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Víctor Bautista, and his team, accompanied the delegation of the European organization also known as Devco (for its acronym in English), who visited the capital of Norte de Santander .
The foreign commission toured the Simon Bolivar International Bridge and the facilities of the National Border Center (Cenaf), where he learned how border controls are carried out and the impact of migratory flows that are reflected in this area of Colombian territory.
The members of the cooperation agency also met with the Mayor (E) of Cúcuta, Wilmar Cepeda, and the local leader of Villa del Rosario, Pepe Ruiz, who explained the situation facing their municipalities on account of the migration crisis and raised approaches aimed at stabilizing and supporting the population from the neighboring country, with a vocation for permanence, beyond humanitarian assistance.
The international delegation was composed of Jorge de la Caballería, Head of the Unit for Latin America; Francisco García, Head of Cooperation; Griet Schoutens, Desk Officer in Colombia and Tito Contreras, Cooperation Officer.
The activities, which took place yesterday and today, included the participation of the Action Contral el Hambre (ACH), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), the Forum of Humanitarian NGOs (Ongi), Save the Children and the Committee. of International Rescue (IRC), among other global cooperation organizations.
The aim of Devco is to create partnerships for change in developing countries, aimed at reducing poverty in the world and promoting sustainable economy, social and ecological development, democracy, the rule of law, good governance and respect for human rights, especially through foreign aid. In addition, it promotes coordination between the European Union and its Member States in matters of cooperation and development and exerts the external representation of the EU in this area.
