The signature of the convention took place in the presence of Philippe Beuchot, headmaster of the Lycée de Pirae, Michel Sommers, president of the Tahitian Swimming Federation, Ariitea Bernadino, director of the Institute of Youth and Sports of French Polynesia and finally Thierry Delmas, Director General of Education and Teaching.
“We are gathered today for the signing of an unprecedented convention in French Polynesia in the field of high performance sport. And it is with the greatest pleasure that I have the honor to lay the foundation stone of a partnership that I hope for a long time between the country and the sports movements. Indeed, the purpose of this meeting is to improve the schooling of top athletes or those wishing to reach the highest level, “said the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports.
The objectives which have been set are the following: to organize the timetables of the sports students taking into account their training constraints, but also to make available, according to adapted niches, the sports facilities and equipment of the Institute of Sport. Youth and Sports from French Polynesia to young athletes.
Research and preparatory work have been necessary for the realization of this device at this stage still experimental. As a result, the experience will first be conducted with Pirae High School and the Tahitian Swimming Federation. It is planned that the device will subsequently be extended to other sports federations.
The Lycée will undertake to organize the students’ schedule so that they can participate in their daily training. Beside this, he agrees to make his faculty aware of the constraints of athletes.
“This device is part of a vision not only in the medium term, but also in the long term, the goal being to prepare our young people for the championships that are local, national and international,” said the Minister of Education, youth and sports.
