Young Canberrans will have the opportunity to turn their ideas into a reality with the opening of the 2019 Youth InterACT grant program.

The program provides grants of up to $1,500 to young people aged 12-25 years to develop and facilitate youth focused projects in the ACT. The program aims to support young people to actively engage and connect with other young people across Canberra.

Minister for Children, Youth and Families Rachel Stephen-Smith said this program was one example of the how the ACT Government empowers young people to become more involved in their communities.

“We’re really lucky in Canberra to have a community of young people who are engaged, passionate and inspired to make positive change in our city.

“These grants offer an opportunity for young people to raise awareness about issues that matter to them and to recognise the contribution young people make in Canberra. Every year, I’m blown away by the initiatives put forward and am excited to see what great ideas young people come up with this year.”

Successful recipients of last year’s Youth InterACT Grant round included new juggling equipment for the JuggleHub, Mental Health First Aid training, and the launch of the United Nation’s Youth Australia report.

Applications for the Youth InterACT Grant close on Monday 15 July 2019. To apply, visit www.communityservices.act.gov.au/youth.

Interviews with previous grant winners are available upon request.
