For the second year in a row in Novosibirsk, unique competitions of firefighters and rescuers “Vertical Challenge” took place. 26 floors, 520 steps and 80 meters in height were overcome by 72 participants, fighting for the title of the fastest and most persistent in vertical racing.

The sport event was opened by the first deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the Novosibirsk region, Colonel Andrei Demenev. On the territory of the city-park “Yasniy Bereg”, before the start, viewers were shown the process of extinguishing a burning house and saving people from high-rise buildings with the help of auto ladders and descenders.

In the course of the competition, the runners, one after the other, at intervals of one minute, conquered the top of 26 floors. The difficulty was added twenty kilograms of combat equipment of the gas and smoke protection: firefighter clothing, belt, carbine, helmet, balaclava, boots, as well as the mandatory use of respiratory protective equipment – a device with compressed air.

“We are preparing for the competition ourselves. We are engaged in “fire” crossfit, taking part in a comprehensive all-around firefighters and rescuers. The most important thing is to calculate your strength at all stages and not to look at the floors, move only forward, ”said the guard chief of the fire and rescue unit No. 2, senior lieutenant of the internal service Dmitry Belyakov, winner of the Vertical Challenge in 2018.

During the competitions, an interactive platform was launched for the audience, where they held contests on the knowledge of fire safety rules, a “master class” on first aid in the framework of the project “Learn to save lives!”. The guests were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with modern means of saving people, emergency rescue and fire fighting equipment. For fans on the Internet organized an online broadcast of the competition.
