Members of the Lords, including the chair of trustees of the National Community Land Trust and the vice president of the Association of Drainage Authorities, will discuss the key principles and purpose of the Rivers Authorities and Land Drainage Bill during second reading, on Thursday 16 May.
Lord Bethell (Conservative), the bill’s sponsor in the Lords, is expected to open the debate.
Government whip Viscount Younger of Leckie (Conservative) will respond on half of the government.
Rivers Authorities and Land Drainage Bill summary
This bill aims to:
provide the government with new powers to establish ‘river authorities’
address current obstacles to raising expenses of new, or the expansion of existing, internal drainage boards under the Land Drainage Act 1991
