WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded an $18,000,000 Rural Development loan to the Muskingum Valley Health Center (MVCH) for a new medical services building through its Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program.  Funds for the project will go toward construction of the new, 49,000 square-foot facility.

“Community Health Centers, like MVCH, play a critical role in keeping our families healthy,” said Brown. “This investment will help MVCH ensure rural Ohioans in Guernsey County and the surrounding area have access to quality care that is close to home.”

The MVCH offers a variety of medical services, including emergency, to residents of Coshocton, Guernsey, Morgan and Muskingum Counties. The new facility will replace leased space and will now allow MVCH to offer dental and vision services to more than 15,000 rural residents.

These funds are a part of the USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loan & Grant Program, which provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. The program helps rural small towns, cities and communities make infrastructure improvements and provide essential facilities such as schools, libraries, courthouses, public safety facilities, hospitals, colleges and daycare centers.

Brown has been a leader for Ohio’s rural communities, fighting to secure a strong Rural Development title in the recently passed 2018 Farm Bill and the 2014 Farm Bill. He is the first Ohioan to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in more than 50 years.
