Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has called on the Belfast Trust to clarify why it failed to provide evidence requested by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) with regards to staff suspensions in Muckamore Abbey Hospital.
Speaking after it emerged that interim NMC suspensions were lifted by the High Court, the party’s Health spokesperson commented:
“This is a difficult time for affected patients of Muckamore Abbey Hospital and their families.
“It appears the NMC have not received the evidence they requested of the Belfast Trust.
“While everyone is entitled to due process, and the High Court’s decision must be respected, the Belfast Trust must explain why it has not provided the evidence requested by NMC.
“This confusion has added to concerns around the Belfast Trust’s handling of its response to safeguarding in Muckamore and once again emphasises the need for a public inquiry.”
