Press Release

Washington D.C. – Lead Republican, Ted S. Yoho (R-FL), for the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation, gave the following statement on today’s announcement that the U.S. will formally withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

“I support the administration’s decision to withdraw from the INF treaty with Russia. It is clear Russia has not upheld their part of the agreement. While the INF treaty served a vital purpose over the past three decades, treaties are only strong when both parties honor the contract.

“Factoring in Russia’s repeated violations, and China – who does not have to adhere to this treaty – developing their intermediate-range missiles, the United States will be fighting with one arm tied behind its back if we remain bound by this treaty.

“I applaud President Trump’s administration for taking bold action, and I look forward to working with the administration and Secretary Pompeo on effective ways to counter the national security threats we face.”
