With his two interlocutors, Jean-Yves Le Drian discussed the major regional issues, particularly Syria and the consequences of the announcement of the US withdrawal as well as the Israeli-Palestinian issue, on which we maintain close cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. These talks were also an opportunity for the Minister to recall the strong attachment of France to the strategic partnership that binds us to Jordan. The fight against terrorism – in the first place Daesh – as well as the securing of the Jordanian territory are at the heart of this partnership. The Minister also reiterated France’s commitment to the resilience of Jordan. This commitment, which we want ambitious and up to the challenges facing the Kingdom, revolves around two distinct objectives: support for the reception of refugees and long-term support for the Jordanian economy. It is for this reason that AFD has implemented a € 900 million MoU over the 2016-2018 period, and plans to maintain a similar level of intervention for the years to come. France is fully aware of the solidarity shown by Jordan and the Jordanian people, who host nearly 700,000 Syrian refugees registered with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. At the economic plan, Jean-Yves Le Drian welcomed the Jordanian reform efforts, and discussed with his interlocutors the preparations for the London Conference to be held next February. France fully supports this initiative.
