Public holidays may be not worked or worked and paid on terms that vary depending on the day concerned (May 1st or other). In some cases, public holidays also make it possible to benefit from a bridge.

May 1

The 1st of May is the only mandatory day off for all employees, the work being planned that day only in certain institutions and services (hospitals, public transport …) where the work can not be interrupted because of the nature of their activity.

Other holidays

Other holidays may exist in a region, a locality or in certain sectors of activity. This is the case, for example, in Alsace and Moselle, which also benefit from Good Friday and 26 December.

bridges

The employer may also provide a bridge to employees in particular between one or two days of weekly rest and a holiday. The hours lost due to the bridge can be recovered, the employees having to make another day lost working hours.
