As of January 1, 2019, the energy check is open to households whose reference tax income (RFR) per consumption unit (1 person is 1 unit, the second 0.5 and each additional person 0.3) is less than € 10,700 (previously € 7,700). The value of the check which is calculated according to the RFR and your consumption will now vary between 48 € and 277 € per year. This is indeed specified by an order published in the Official Journal of 28 December 2018.
For the households concerned, there is no special procedure to perform to receive it since the energy check is sent automatically by post.
Once obtained, it is used to pay directly to energy suppliers any kind of energy expenditure (gas, electricity, fuel, wood …) including online with some of them.
This check can also be used to finance energy efficiency works (works meeting the eligibility criteria of the energy transition tax credit).
