For 6 weeks, I had the chance to settle in one of the studios that make up the complex dedicated to artists in residence, as part of the FAR program, French Artist in Residency 2018. Screen shot of the film Bundanon, or Life in the Bush With a literary and artistic training (graduated from Villa Arson, Nice), my project was to make filmed portraits of other residents, with a particular condition: to meet them at sunrise, (which at this time of year in this part of Australia was supposed to be cool and refreshed at 5:45 am). Bundanon residents generally stay there for a few days and 1-2 days. weeks. On several occasions, I was therefore “the one who stays”. I rubbed shoulders with artists from all walks of life: writers, dancers, performers, sculptors … Most of them played the game, sometimes even agreeing to repeat the experience of an “early morning portrait” when the weather was not at the rendezvous.Capture of the video Heroic Mornings, Every morning are heroicThe body at work, the singularity of an experience at the service of creation, the possibility of a privileged exchange, everything what made up the essence of my work as a videographer was before my eyes, permanently, in a place of refuge where the daily preoccupations had, during the time of a residence, almost no impact. In the priceless luxury of having a space and a time to oneself. I had to find ways to adapt myself to this space and time; the bush is home to deadly species: spiders, snakes; I was the only young French woman, not particularly reckless, parachuted in a totally new environment, cut off from the outside world, in which we have to evolve with these parameters in mind, and find for myself a way to separate the rational and irrational fears. , learn from residents and locals.Photography, Night Out series, 1 / 10This residency allowed me to make a short film: Bundanon, or Life in the Bush, (24minutes) composed of a series of titled poems that account for of my meetings and discoveries: The Camel Lady, The Alchemic Dancer, Night Out … are the 3 first ones. I realized in parallel a form more dreamlike and collected: Heroic Mornings / Every morning are heroic, a video of a little more than 3 minutes, which presents in an intimate and unconventional day the awakening and putting to work of a writer, a group of dancers and a singer, at the rhythm of the rising of the sun, as well as photographs.
