A Whyalla Highway Patrol detected the driver with the highest blood alcohol reading on New Year’s Eve, just before midnight.

About 11.50pm on Monday 31 December, a Whyalla Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle on the Lincoln Highway near Whyalla for a mobile driver test.

The driver, a 26-year-old Port Augusta man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.215, more than four times the legal limit.

He was reported for drink driving and breaching the conditions of his provisional licence.  He was issued with a 12 month instant loss of licence and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days.  He will be summonsed to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police conducted more than 6000 mobile and static driver tests throughout the State between 7pm and 7am on New Year’s Eve.
