A man has been arrested for serious firearms offences after police were called to two traffic incidents yesterday afternoon.

At around 3.45pm on Friday 28 December, police received reports about a man driving a small white hatchback near the intersection of Main South Road and Seacombe Road at Darlington allegedly threatening other cars with what appeared to be a firearm.

A short time later, police were called to Lonsdale Road at Hallett Cove after a man driving erratically in a small white Toyota Corolla allegedly brandished what appeared to be a firearm at the victim’s car. The victims weren’t physically injured.

After an investigation police from the Southern District CIB Tactical Team attended a home in Trott Park where they located a car matching the description provided by witnesses parked in the driveway and a man seated in the driver’s seat. Further checks revealed the car had been reported as stolen on 26 December from a business in Adelaide.

Police searched the car and located a handgun and magazine which were seized.

The 31-year-old from Trott Park was arrested and charged with illegal use of motor vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault and possess firearm without a licence. He was refused bail to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday 31 December.
