Thank you so much, Mr. Mayor.  And good morning to all of you.  I’m so happy to be here.

I want to give a special shout out to Jennifer and all her hard-working colleagues at Florida Health.  I know you are about to change your name to AdventHealth.  Old habits die hard, but—starting today—I am going to make a concerted effort to call you by your new name.

As you know, AdventHealth is headquartered in Altamonte Springs, which is located in the congressional district I am so proud and so privileged to represent in Washington, DC.

It’s no secret that central Florida is home to world-class hospitals and doctors, devoted to their patients and to our community.  It is one of the main reasons why this is such a special place to live, to work, and to raise a family.

Today we are gathered to break ground on a wonderful addition to the AdventHealth system, the construction of a new emergency department that will provide around-the-clock services to residents of Oviedo and neighboring areas.

As all of us have no doubt experienced in our own lives, when you or someone you love is seriously ill or injured, everything else moves to the backburner.  The most important thing is to get the proper treatment, from trusted health care professionals, in a timely way.  In the most critical cases, a few precious moments can make all the difference.

Once this new emergency department is up and running, families in the Oviedo area will be able to breathe a little bit easier.  They’ll have another excellent facility in which to receive care, conveniently located in their own community.  Good ERs do more than provide top-notch health services; they provide a sense of security and comfort as well.

So, thank you to everyone whose hard work made today possible.  You’ve done a great thing.

Now, it’s my honor to welcome Dr. Mitch Maulfair, director of the Winter Park Emergency Department.
