On the occasion of the holiday season, perhaps you are curious about the regulations on holidays?

Public holidays are the days of legal holidays indicated in the Labor Code: 1st January, Easter Monday, 1st May, 8th May, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, 14th July, Assumption Day (15th August), Toussaint, 11th November and 25th December.

May 1st is mandatory for all employees, with exceptions.

For other holidays:

a collective agreement (company or establishment agreement, collective agreement or sectoral agreement) defines the holidays that will be off;
failing this, the employer sets the statutory holidays. He must inform the employee how to access this information.

In practice, the agreement stipulating that the 25th of December and the 1st of January are public holidays in the company obliges the employee not to work those days.
