During the working trip to Lviv region, President Petro Poroshenko watched the Reminiscence.UA performance by director-choreographer, People’s Artist of Ukraine Iryna Mazur. The play tells about the 300-year history of the struggle of Ukrainians for their state in confrontation with the Russian Empire.

The Head of State expressed belief that such performances are important for preserving the historical memory of the formation of Ukrainian statehood. “I am convinced that this should enter the history as a political vaccination against the “Russian world”. As a symbol of revival of the Ukrainian nation. As a project worth watching in order to understand the enormous responsibility of the entire Ukrainian nation,” he said to the audience.

“In order to recall the high price paid for the opportunity to revive and build a new Ukrainian state,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President expressed conviction that the new Ukrainian army created in 4,5 years, the visa-free regime that we received after implementing reforms in the country are “the final goodbye to the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union”. The revival of the Ukrainian language, including through language quotas that protect its development, the revival of Ukrainian culture are the embodiment of the call: “Away From Moscow!”.

“Away from Moscow!” is the decision of the Ecumenical Orthodox Synod to provide autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” he added.

“We must remember the events that took place 100 years ago. The Lord then gave us the state … And everything could have happened 100 years ago. But it did not happen, because there was no unity. Conflicts, confrontation began inside Ukraine. And you saw now what price our great nation paid for this,” he said, stressing that in those days the lives of millions of Ukrainians were lost, precisely because of the disunity of our society.

“Today, the Ukrainian army, Ukrainian volunteers, Ukrainian people and Ukrainian nation do not simply repel Russian aggression, they build a new state,” Petro Poroshenko said.

“The only thing we need is the unity of the Ukrainian people, the unity of the Ukrainian elite and the responsibility of the Ukrainian authorities and every Ukrainian for the future fate of our state, for the future of our Ukraine,” the President said.

He emphasized that this is why he initiated amendments to the Constitution regarding Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO. “This will be the commitment of every representative of the government, starting with the President, Government, Parliament, to move our state forward to Europe. And we will definitely do it,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

The Head of State added: “We will not allow the Kremlin and Moscow to undermine us from the middle. Because they realized that you cannot beat Ukraine at the front. Therefore, they are trying to undermine us from inside by the fifth column, by the Moscow church, by populists or by traitors”.

“Aggression in the Black Sea, in the Azov Sea of along our border cannot prevent us from defending the state, building Ukraine and moving it to Europe,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
