The President of the Republic and his Chilean counterpart, Mr. Sebastián PIÑERA, met on the occasion of the official visit to France of the latter.
This meeting was an opportunity for the two presidents to highlight the richness of the Franco-Chilean relationship, particularly economically and scientifically. Chile is now the second largest South American customer in France, which plays an important economic role, especially in sectors of the future of the Chilean economy that are renewable energy, infrastructure and transport. The two Presidents agreed to continue to deepen our economic and trade exchanges and to put special emphasis on developing our cooperation in innovation.
The President of the Republic and his Chilean counterpart also wished to reaffirm their shared commitment to the values of democracy and multilateralism, in the face of the threats they face. They decided to develop their political dialogue on the main international issues of shared interest, in particular the fight against climate change and the defense of the multilateral trading system. They also shared their analyzes and concerns about the Venezuelan crisis and its consequences for the region.
The two heads of state adopted a joint declaration with bilateral roadmap, including operational actions aimed at strengthening Franco-Chilean relations, in particular on the stakes of the future.
