Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a motorcyclist who is alleged to have left the scene of a fatal collision in Melton earlier this week.
Detectives working around the clock arrested the 32-year-old man at an address in Melton this afternoon.
The Melton man’s arrest follows a collision on Tuesday when the rider he was travelling with turned onto High Street, veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with another car about 6.45pm.
The 36-year-old rider died at the scene.
Further enquiries throughout the week led police to believe the man arrested was riding in company with the deceased rider and was allegedly chasing a party known to them when the collision occurred.
The motorcyclist arrested is believed to have checked on the deceased rider following the collision and then left the scene.
The man is currently assisting police with their enquiries and is expected to be charged this evening with dangerous driving causing death, reckless conduct endangering life, theft of motor vehicle and other traffic offences.
