President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with French President Emmanuel Macron as part of a working visit to Brussels for participation in the NATO Summit.
The Presidents discussed the security situation in the Donbas and agreed on further steps to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission. The necessity to intensify the negotiation process in the Normandy format was recognized.
The President stressed the importance of consolidating international efforts to intensify pressure on Russia to immediately release all Ukrainian political prisoners, including Oleg Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko and Volodymyr Balukh.
The Head of State thanked for the EU decision to extend economic sanctions by January 31, 2019.
The President of Ukraine reiterated the invitation to the President of France to visit Ukraine that would be of particular importance in light of the celebration of the Year of the French Language in Ukraine, which will begin on September 3, 2018.
